Warner Bros. and Midway Sitting In A Tree
Midways Games received a giant boost of confidence this afternoon when a Delaware judge approved the purchase of the bankrupt developer by Warner Bros. Entertainment. For the past few months, the fate of Midway has been up in the air due to serious financial troubles. A recent bid of $33 million revealed that Warner Brothers was the only party interested in buying up the company.
This merge will place some big names under the Warner Brothers group. Among the mix, Mortal Kombat will remain as will the company's sports and arcade brand, This is Vegas.
Not everything from Midway will be making it over to the Warner Brothers team, however. Midway studios in both Newcastle and San Diego have been given 60 days to find new owners before being shut down. Midway Newcastle has been hard at work on Necesary Force, a modern day detective story. Today's news seems to have been less of a shock here as the team has been seeking a buyer for their new IP for some time.
